Dear Edgartown School Families,


All the staff at the Edgartown School are filled with happy anticipation about the return to a more normal school year and seeing your children in their classrooms soon! Staff are busy getting ready for the start of school on Wednesday, September 8! We are writing to give you some key updates. We also want to share some wisdom about the simple steps you can take to help your child as we start another school year during a pandemic. Be assured, our teachers are working hard to prepare their rooms, curriculum, and plans, but most importantly for building supportive learning communities that keep children safe and happy. We hope you and your child will enjoy the coming milestone of a new school year.
The latest COVID protocols will be posted on our website soon. Below are some of the procedures that you should know about. The island-wide Health and Safety committee meets regularly to keep all our practices up to date.

  • Families will be asked to participate in the daily COVID symptom checker text alert system as we did last year. It is very important that no one comes to school with any symptoms. More information about signing up for this text alert system is coming soon.
  • The Martha's Vineyard Public Schools require all students and staff to wear masks while in the building. This policy, which was reaffirmed by our school committees and later required by DESE, is due to the rise in COVID cases on-Island and across the state. 
  • Students and staff may remove their masks when outside.
  • All classrooms are being prepared with as much distancing as possible. 
  • This year students will be able to move around their room and to their specialist classes.
  • Breakfast and Lunch will now be served in the cafeteria and is free for all students again this year.
  • Half of the lunch group will eat in a tent and half will eat in the cafeteria. They will alternate locations each week.
  • Staff take students outside for lunch, recess, and sometimes for their class. Please be sure that your child is dressed for the weather. Multiple layers are usually best for changing conditions.
  • Please have your child bring a water bottle clearly labeled with their name. Water fountains are not used this year.
  • Access to the building is limited to staff only with few exceptions. Anyone visiting the building must be cleared by administration, have a pre arranged appointment, and will be asked to follow all the COVID-19 protocols.

Arrival and Drop off begin no earlier than 8:00 for everyone.

  • Please do not drop off earlier for safety reasons. There is no supervision before 8:00.
  • Students exit the vehicle on the SIDEWALK side only!
  • Bus information will be posted to the web site very soon. All bus riders need to keep masks on and the bus windows will be open. Please be sure your student dresses accordingly.
  • All students who eat breakfast go in the front door to the cafeteria.
  • Kindergarten students who are driven to school get dropped off at the front door and go into the lobby to wait.
  • 1st-4th grade students who walk, bike, or get driven to school may wait on the playground or stand by the front door until 8:15.
  • 5th-8th grade students can stand be in or outside the link entrance or play in the gym until 8:15.
  • Please make every effort to be on time, students are late after 8:20.

Kindergarten will have half day dismissals at 12:00 Sept 8 - September 17. 
Grades 1-8 are dismissed at 2:40

  • Busses depart at 2:50
  • Drivers picking up pull up as far as possible to pick up students.

We are doing everything we can to keep students and staff safe, healthy and happy. Families play a vital role in their child's school start too! Your children will look to you for assurance and comfort. A positive and reassuring demeanor coming from the important adults in each child's life helps them feel confident . If you take the time to give your child the opportunity to express themselves and to be heard they will also learn the valuable skill of reducing anxiety by sharing feelings with a trusted adult. It’s equally important that parents reconnect with teachers and start building relationships to create strong school communities. "We at the Edgartown School are preparing to do plenty of listening, inquiring, and reconnecting with all of you too. Our children can summon resilience when they are supported by everyone in their community. This is certainly another unusual year, but we are confident that working together we can make it a great year for all!

Os protocolos do COVID mais recentes serão publicados em nosso site em breve. Abaixo estão alguns dos procedimentos que vocês devem conhecer. O comitê de Saúde e Segurança de toda a ilha se reúne regularmente para manter todas as nossas práticas. 

  • As famílias serão convidadas a participar do sistema de alerta de texto do verificador de sintomas do COVID diário, como fizemos no ano passado. É muito importante que ninguém venha à escola com quaisquer sintomas. Mais informações sobre como se inscrever neste sistema de alerta de texto em breve.
  • As Escolas Públicas de Martha's Vineyard exigem que todos os alunos e funcionários usem máscaras enquanto estiverem no prédio. Esta norma, que foi reafirmada por nossos comitês escolares e posteriormente exigida pelo DESE, deve-se ao aumento de casos do COVID na Ilha e em todo o estado.   
  • Os alunos e funcionários podem remover suas máscaras quando estiverem do lado de fora.
  • Todas as salas de aula estão sendo preparadas com o maior distanciamento possível. 
  • Este ano, os alunos poderão se deslocar em suas salas e em suas aulas especializadas.
  • O café da manhã e o almoço agora serão servidos no refeitório e serão gratuitos para todos os alunos novamente este ano.
  • Metade do grupo do almoço comerá em uma tenda e a outra metade no refeitório. Eles irão alternar os locais a cada semana.
  • A equipe leva os alunos para fora para almoçar, recreio e, às vezes, para as aulas. Certifiquem-se de que seus filhos estejam vestidos de acordo com o clima. Geralmente, várias camadas de roupa são melhores para as condições em mudança. 
  • Peçam aos seus filhos que tragam uma garrafa de água claramente identificada com seu nome. Os bebedouros não serão usados ​​este ano.

  • Os alunos da 1ª à 4ª série que vem a pé, vem de bicicleta ou são trazidos de carro para a escola podem esperar no pátio de recreio ou ficar na porta da frente até às 8h15.
  • Os alunos da 5ª à 8ª série podem ficar em pé dentro ou fora da entrada do link ou brincar na academia até às 8h15.
  • Favor fazerem todo o possível para chegarem na hora certa, os alunos são considerados atrasados ​​depois das 8h20.

O jardim de infância terá dispensas de meio período às 12h até sexta-feira, 17 de setembro. As séries da 1ª à 8ª são dispensadas às 14h40.

  • Os ônibus partem às 14h50.
  • Os motoristas que estão apanhando os alunos vão parar o mais longe possível para apanhar os alunos.
