News:

Hello 2D!

A lot has been going on in the classroom and there are many things coming up, please read ahead and mark your calendars:

We are sixty-two days into the school year and what an increase in problem solving independence I am noticing as we speed through this year! So much learning is taking place as we explore new spelling patterns in reading. Over the past couple weeks we have been applying our knowledge on parts of speech with a focus on nouns (proper and common), and adjectives. Last week we read about Abraham Lincoln which prompted rich conversation around the history of our country and the abolition of slavery.

Thank you for supporting solid homework habits at home! The class has been receiving cubes towards their next celebration and one way they do that is when everyone does their homework. Reading every day has a huge impact on reading ability so again, thank you for making sure your child is reading/being read to every day.

I am thankful for your continued support in the practicing of basic math facts with sums/differences to 20 as well. In math we have been learning how to solve word problems involving double digit addition and subtraction. Along with using place value to subtract (shifting ten), we have been using the number line to explain our thinking.

With just two weeks left until Christmas vacation, we are zooming in on one last personal narrative to be published and presented to you in the coming weeks. We will be inviting parents into the classroom to hear the published pieces on Thursday, December 19th at 2:00. Mark your calendars!

Monday, December 16th is our whole school holiday concert. Please drop the children off to the classroom at 5:40pm. You can pick them back up at the classroom after the show.

Wednesday, December 18th of that week we will go to the Holiday Bizarre in the cafeteria. This is an annual fundraiser for the Red Stocking Fund where the children get to shop for their loved ones. Please see the letter that was sent home with more details regarding donations.

The next Fun-Run is on Friday, December 20th. This is also a half day to kick off holiday break! Please feel free to join for the run and then community meeting afterwards. We will run with our 7th grade buddies.

Lastly, we have an elf that has found a home in our classroom and has decided to stay with us because of all the kindness he sees every day in our classroom. This is unprecedented as room 136 is usually an elf-free room, but somehow this guy snuck in. His name is Jack Frost and so far has served popcorn and delivered a Christmas tree to our room. He has to work on his spelling and we are working to help him with that and his penmanship as he watches us!

Here’s to a fun and somewhat concentrated holiday season!
